TaPay @ Karnival Kewangan Perlis 2019

Posted in Press Release

Malaysia’s first community e-wallet, TaPay, was invited to be part of the Karnival Kewangan Perlis 2019 held in Dewan Warisan Kangar, Perlis on the 28 & 29 September 2019.

Themed “Prioritize Your Financial Needs” the Karnival Kewangan Perlis 2019 was organized by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and supported by various financial institutions and government agencies representing a wide range of financial products and services.

Perlis Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Azlan Man officiated the event with the presence of BNM Assistant Governor, Abu Hassan Alshari Yahaya.

According to BNM, the carnival aimed to raise awareness of financial products and services, financial literacy and strengthening financial management capabilities in communities through a one-stop learning and entertainment center.

Responses from the citizens of Perlis was very encouraging with more than 5,000 visitors were recorded during the two days event.

Based on the feedback received by our team, millennials in Perlis are more aware of the e-payment or e-wallet solutions. They are willing to trylearn, and can quickly adapt to new technologies.

They are also looking forward to having more exciting promotions offered by e-wallet providers. Meanwhile, for the elderly, more works need to be done by the industry players as well as the regulators to raise awareness and to ensure the safety of using an e-wallet, as security concerns continue to sprout among them.

However, security isn’t the only factor behind people shying away from mobile wallets. Based on the Nielsen’s report launched recently, 38% of Malaysians believe that it’s much easier to pay by cash, while 31% do not understand how mobile wallets work, and thus much prefer to wait and see.

With that, we believe that event like Karnival Kewangan is an excellent platform for the industry players to showcase what they can offer for their customers as well as to increase more awareness on this new, non-traditional payment solutions.
